UCLA construction project managers, Facilities Management staff and principal investigators may contact Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) to inquire about the asbestos content of building materials throughout campus. The Asbestos Program Manager can search a historical database of asbestos samples and project documentation for existing laboratory analysis. If no such information exists regarding the suspect materials, they must be sampled or otherwise be presumed positive for asbestos content. Sampling of building materials is performed by either a university-approved certified environmental consultants or specially trained members of EH&S. The Asbestos Program Manager can best determine which entity should perform the asbestos testing. Survey reports and laboratory analysis are provided to the requesting person with consultation by the Asbestos Program Manager on the overall impact to the project or building occupants.
