Safe food handling guidelines and permitting information for temporary food events.

BBQ sales, promotional food giveaways and similar temporary food events pose a particular challenge to the service of safe and wholesome food. To ensure the safety of the campus community, please review the guidelines and resources below. In order for your permit to be approved, the application process must be completed in the timeline required.

Guidelines for Food Safety at Temporary Events (PDF)

Different foods must be prepared, stored and handled in specific ways to ensure they are safe to be served at a later time. Review this brochure to familiarize yourself with the instructions.

Bake Sale Guidelines (PDF)

Certain prepackaged food items do not require a permit. Review the bake sale guidelines to learn what food items quality, and how to prepare these items.

Temporary Food Sale Instructions (PDF)

Student groups hosting a food event must consult their SOLE/Departmental advisor and follow the steps outlined in the Temporary Food Sale Instructions. Different campus locations require different processes, so review this document well in advance.

Temporary Food Event Application (PDF)

The application must be submitted at least five working days prior to the event date, with all requested information completed.

Office Hours and Permit Checklist (PDF)

The EH&S Environmental Health Specialist holds office hours once a week to guide student groups in completing the application process. Office hours are Thursdays, 1:30pm – 3:30pm at Kerckhoff Hall Room 105.
