Testing New Biohazard Waste Barrels

Starting Friday, April 1, 2016, the MRL and CHS buildings will begin testing new BIOHAZARD solid waste Stericycle barrels as proposed replacements for the 44-gallon red biohazard barrels currently used at UCLA. (BSRB has been testing these for a few months). During the trial period, a small number of our usual 44-gallon barrels in these Medical Waste Accumulation Areas will be replaced with the new 95 gallon barrels.
Users are asked to ensure the hinged lids are completely closed after placing properly contained biohazard waste bags or upright closed biohazard sharps containers into the barrels. The "bungee-style" latches on the front of the barrels should be closed only once the barrel is full.
Also please take care to fill the barrels in the back of the room/cage first before filling barrels toward the front to prevent blocking access to empty barrels.
Users are asked to submit their opinions, concerns or problems about the new barrels on the following online survey:
If you have any immediate concerns or problems, please email: [email protected] or call Biosafety at 310-206-3929.
