The Shipping Biological Materials training is required for anyone packaging and/or shipping biological or infectious substances. This course is offered online with a $95 fee. Prerequisite: Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP).

Course Description

The Shipping Biological Materials training is required prior to packaging and/or shipping the following materials for diagnostic or investigational purposes:

  • Infectious substances
  • Biological substances including human and animal tissues, cells, fluids
  • Genetically Modified Organisms
  • Dry ice
  • Liquid Nitrogen Shippers
  • Fixatives in Limited and Excepted Quantities

Topics covered in this web-based training include proper specimen classification, identification, packing, marking and labeling, and documentation required to meet DOT and IATA regulations.  If you have any questions regarding the topics covered and the specific DOT and IATA regulations, please contact Biosafety at biosafety@ehs.ucla.edu or (310) 794-7745.

Prerequisite

All learners must complete Biosafety Training’s Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) prior to Shipping Biological Materials.  Your registration will be held until BBP completion is confirmed.  Review the training schedule and registration process at Class Descriptions & Training Schedule.

Registration

Complete the two-page registration form (PDF) and submit to EH&S Training. The second page is a Recharge Order Request (ROR) and requires an authorized signature to process the registration fee. Once the ROR is validated (typically within 2-4 business days of receipt), learners will receive an email with an activation code and instructions on how to complete the online course.
